KATHMANDU: National Assembly, the Upper House of the Federal Parliament, has passed the Finance Bill, 2083, and will return it to the House of Representatives (HoR), the Lower House.

Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle presented the bill for clause‑by‑clause discussion, accompanied by a message from the HoR; his motion for deliberation was carried by a majority of votes.

Earlier, Dr Wagle had asked the National Assembly to pass the bill without further amendment and to send it back to the HoR.

During the debate, NA members Dr Prem Dangal, Samjhana Devkota, Roshani Meche and Somnath Portel expressed concern about proposals to impose taxes on education and health services.

In the zero hour, members urged the government to ensure food and secure housing for landless squatters.
