LALITPUR: The country has recorded nearly 50% paddy plantation so far, the Department of Agriculture said. Out of a target of planting paddy on 1.37 million hectares this year, plantation has been completed on 682,000 hectares to date.

The Director General at the Department, Rajendra Koirala, said that although the country had recorded 60% paddy plantation by the same period last fiscal year, cultivation is 10% behind this year.

By province, Sudurpaschim leads with 87% plantation, followed by Gandaki with 65.9%, Karnali with 60%, Lumbini with 59% and Bagmati with 57.1%.

Madhes has so far completed paddy planting on 32.7% of its land, while Koshi stands at 32%, the Department added.

The authority said it hopes paddy planting will increase sharply next week as it is raining in most parts of the country. Farming will continue smoothly provided there are no hindrances such as floods, landslides and other natural disasters.
