KATHMANDU: The government falls short of income and expenditure targets for fiscal year 2025/26, official data show.
According to the Financial Comptroller General Office (FCGO), annual revenue reached 83.51% of the target while expenditure stood at 80.55% of the target for the fiscal year that ended on Thursday, July 16.
The government had allocated a budget of Rs 1,964.11 billion for the year, but only Rs 1,582.16 billion had been spent by the end of June (mid‑Ashar).
Current expenditure amounted to Rs 1,043.99 billion, or 88.4% of the target of Rs 1,180.98 billion.
Capital expenditure remained particularly weak. Under this heading, the government spent Rs 190.84 billion, only 39.93% of the allocation of Rs 477.88 billion.
Under fiscal management, spending totalled Rs 347.33 billion, representing 92.56% of the allocation of Rs 375.24 billion.
The government had set a target of collecting total revenue of Rs 1,533.44 billion for the year, but actual collection was Rs 1,280.65 billion, or 83.51% of the target.
The target for foreign grants was Rs 53.4469 billion, but only Rs 31.2641 billion was received, equivalent to 58.5% of the target.
