ADB, Huawei Nepal launch smart classroom with Vishwa Niketan school to expand digital learning

KATHMANDU: Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Huawei Nepal, in partnership with Vishwa Niketan Secondary School, have launched a Smart Classroom and Student Scientific Inquiry Skill Development Workshop to show how digital methods can transform learning across Nepal.

The joint initiative aims to make quality education more accessible by establishing a collaborative smart education platform that links the urban school in Kathmandu with institutions outside the Kathmandu Valley. The platform enables students and teachers to take part in live scientific inquiry sessions and exchange knowledge in real time.

Through technological solutions provided by Huawei, students in remote schools will gain access to science learning resources, interactive digital tools and collaborative activities alongside peers at Vishwa Niketan. Teachers from participating institutions can share teaching experience and deliver lessons jointly, with the project seeking to bridge educational gaps by linking classrooms directly rather than merely digitising them.

Huawei said its smart education vision concentrates on three priorities: reducing the urban-rural education divide, supplying teachers with intelligent digital tools and improving learning outcomes through data‑driven insights.

Established in 1959 in Tripureshwor, Kathmandu, Vishwa Niketan Secondary School is one of Nepal’s oldest public educational institutions and serves as a model school intended to encourage wider adoption of smart education nationwide.

The initiative brings together the ADB, Huawei Nepal and Vishwa Niketan Secondary School to strengthen scientific literacy, improve teaching quality and support the digital transformation of Nepal through connected and equitable education systems.
