Over 3,000 people rescued in Rasuwa, Nuwakot after Bhotekoshi River flash flood

TRISHULI, NUWAKOT: More than 3,000 people stranded across Rasuwa and Nuwakot districts have been rescued after a flash flood on Bhotekoshi River.

Shambhu Prasad Regmi, Chief District Officer of Nuwakot and coordinator of District Disaster Management Committee, said 3,029 people had been brought to safety as of Sunday night. The rescued group includes 253 foreign nationals, with 624 people saved within the past 24 hours.

Rescue operations remain underway for people believed to be trapped in hydropower tunnels, and search efforts continue in Timure, Syafrubesi, Mailung and other parts of Rasuwa district.

"Those taking shelter in safe locations were rescued by helicopter," Regmi said. He added that people requiring healthcare services were referred to medical facilities, while others were reunited with their families.

Local authorities had received 1,558 applications as of Sunday from families seeking assistance to locate missing relatives across both Rasuwa and Nuwakot districts.

Meanwhile, officials have retrieved 95 bodies from various locations across the district and have released identification details publicly to assist with formal identification. The bodies recovered from Nuwakot district are being kept at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) in Kathmandu, and affected families have been urged to contact the hospital directly.
