Death toll from Bhotekoshi River flash flood rises to 987

KATHMANDU: The death toll from a flash flood on Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa district has risen to 987, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) confirmed on Tuesday.

A total of 3,916 people remain unaccounted for across the region. So far, emergency responders have rescued 11,814 people, while 21,011 security personnel remain deployed to carry out search and rescue operations.

The NDRRMA stated that 279 people have been injured, with 168 patients discharged from hospital following treatment.

The authority reported that Chitwan recorded the highest casualty count, with 321 bodies recovered. Other districts recorded fatalities as follows: 216 in Nawalparasi East, 170 in Nawalparasi West, 95 in Nuwakot, 65 in Gorkha, 55 in Dhading, 38 in Tanahun and 27 in Rasuwa.

Among those missing are 45 personnel from the Nepali Army, 25 from the Nepal Police, 15 from the Customs Office, 13 from the Armed Police Force, Nepal (APF Nepal) and three from the Immigration Office.
