Coca-Cola Beverages Nepal hands over drinking water solution to Sainik Awasiya Mahavidyala

  • A joint initiative between Coca-Cola Beverages Nepal and Splash Nepal to provide clean, safe drinking water and build an urban resilient community through rainwater harvesting and groundwater recharge in Sainik Awasiya Mahavidyala
KATHMANDU: Coca-Cola Beverages Nepal along with implementing team from Splash Nepal has handed over the Rainwater Harvesting, Groundwater Recharge and Clean Drinking Water project to Sainik Awasiya Mahavidyala in Pokhara. The collaborative project which commenced May 23, 2023, successfully concluded on June 8, 2023, with a handover event held at Sainik Awasiya Mahavidyala to commemorate World Environment Month. Catering to over 1,200 students with both day scholars and residential students, Sainik Awasiya Mahavidyala is a reputed school run by Nepali army welfare. Water is heavily required for day-to-day activities at the school. Through the project, 2 UF Filter systems along with drinking water supply in 12 taps of bottle fillers and eight Bubbler Faucet taps attached to four water stations with dual spouts have been installed in the facility. The system will result to benefit over 2,500 people. The expected volume of potential water recharge, through the project, is 435,400 litres annually. Alongside this, a motivational and awareness session on Rainwater Harvesting and Groundwater recharge was conducted in the school. Likewise, a training session for the maintenance of the filtration system by the school was also provided. Major Babulal GC of Sainik Awasiya Mahavidyala shared, “We have over 1,200 students in our school and we depend heavily on water, especially for our hostels. Safe drinking water is a basic right for children and we are glad to be able to fulfill this. We are thankful to Coca-Cola Beverages Nepal and Splash Nepal for their support in installing a sustainable water solution on our premises.” G Deepak Senthil Nath, Managing Director of Coca-Cola Beverages Nepal, shared, “We continue to protect and replenish water resources, promote responsible water use and help to ensure access to clean water for all, and we are very happy to collaborate with strong partners on the ground to provide safe drinking water for the students, teachers and the extended community of Sainik Awasiya Mahavidyala. Coca-Cola Beverages Nepal gives back more water than what we use in our production, but we continue to support projects that enable overall community resilience, especially in urban areas.” Pradeep Khadka, Executive Director of Splash Nepal, shared, “It is always great to see the happiness amongst the kids drinking clean safe drinking water with easier access.
