Travel agencies in Nepal incur huge losses as ticket sales system hacked

KATHMANDU: Travel agencies in Nepal incurred a loss of millions of rupees as a group of foreigners hacked the ticket sales system. Nepali companies including Deurali Travels, Cosmo Travels and C Link Travels that have been selling international air tickets through Global Distribution System (GDS) incurred huge losses to the hacking. Nepal Association of Tour and Travel Agents (NATTA) President Ramesh Thapa said the foreign hackers issued tickets overnight by sending fake emails to the Nepali travel companies on behalf of GDS Company. “It was found that hackers swindled the companies out of millions of rupees by sending fake emails from GDS along with the logo. With this incident coming to light, Nepali travel companies are fearful,” Thapa said. The hackers were found to have issued tickets worth amounting to Rs 6 million to Rs 8 million from each company. They were issuing most of the tickets to Morocco, said Thapa. The victim agencies have already registered a case at the cyber bureau. Sewar, MIS and Galileo have been providing ticketing services to Nepali travel agencies. By RSS READ ALSO:
