
KATHMANDU: ‘Standard Chartered NewBiz Business Women Summit & Awards 2023’ concluded in Kathmandu, on Friday, July 7.
The programme was organised by New Business Age, with Standard Chartered Bank Nepal as the main sponsor to encourage those women who have excelled in the world of business.
The programme included a panel discussion in the first part and awards distribution in the second part.
The panel discussion on the theme 'Women Entrepreneurs in the Digital Age' was moderated by Michael Siddhi, Country Head, Transaction Banking of Standard Chartered Bank Nepal. Radhika Aryal, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies; Seema Golchha, Director, Golchha Group; and Rumee Singh, Cofounder, Rumsan Nepal took part in the panel discussion.
Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) Governor Maha Prasad Adhikari, who was the chief guest in the first part of the programme, noted that Rs 61 billion has been provided as a concessional loan to 83,300 women.
Addressing the programme, Anirvan Ghosh Dastidar, CEO of Standard Chartered Bank Nepal said, “At Standard Chartered, we believe that supporting young people and micro-business in our communities is a crucial step towards lifting participation, promoting greater financial inclusion in our markets, and making a meaningful difference. The modern Nepali woman is a powerhouse – making her mark in politics, fashion, business, science, sports, the arts…everywhere!”
In the award distribution programme, altogether 13 women entrepreneurs were honoured in seven different categories. Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Yankila Sherpa of Snow Leopard Trek while the 'Social Entrepreneur of the Year' award went to Anand Shova Tamrakar, Vermicompost Expert; and the 'Woman in Tech of the Year' Award was presented to Alisha Shrestha of Amnil Technologies. Likewise, the 'Professional Woman of the Year' Award went to Sewa Pathak of Vianet while the 'Business Woman of the Year' Award went to Padmasana Shakya of Manushi Laghubitta and the 'Woman Entrepreneur of the Year' Award was presented to Dr Prativa Pandey of CIWEC Hospital.
Moreover, seven other women entrepreneurs, one from each of the seven provinces, were presented with 'Emerging Woman Entrepreneur of the Year' award. They also received cash prizes as well. Prema Rajya Laxmi Singh, Chairperson of National Life Insurance Company, personally contributed to the cash prize amount. Recipients of this award included Dina Pradhan of Baari Roastery & Packaging Industry from Koshi Province, Chanchala Das of Women Skill Centre from Madhesh Province, Anushka Shrestha of Lasakusa Food Products from Bagmati Province, Sukun Rasaili BK of Marpha Falful Tatha Tarkari Prashodhan Udyog from Gandaki, Bindu Charti Magar of Charti Flora from Lumbini, Shila Bishwakarma Nepali of JF Ratna Patthar Prashodhan Kendra from Karnali and Sangita Khadka of PS Travel Point Tours from Sudurpaschim Province.
Those honoured women entrepreneurs were selected by an independent jury after several rounds of evaluation of the details collected from over 2,000 women entrepreneurs and professionals from across the country. The Jury panel comprised Radhesh Pant (Chair) with Barsha Shrestha, Anju Sharma, Ava Shah and Basanti Pradhan as members.
Finance Minister Prakash Sharan Mahat was the chief guest in the awards distribution programme. Addressing the programme, Minister Mahat said that women will now have to take the responsibility of managing not only the family economy but also the country’s economy.
Other supporters of the programme included IME Life Insurance, SALICO (Sagarmatha Lumbini Insurance Company), Salt Trading Corporation, Machhapuchchhre Bank, Sun Life Insurance, Reliable Life Insurance, Sitaram Milks, Shangrila Development Bank, Honda Grazia, Agricultural Development Bank, Byanjan, New V Rohto and World Link.
