KATHMANDU: The Entrepreneurial Math programme, developed by Embark Unmath and launched in Nepal, is providing students from class 6 to 12 with the opportunity to connect mathematics and entrepreneurship.
The programme has been introduced with the aim of making mathematics education practical in Nepal.
The one-year programme emphasises the application of mathematics in areas such as business plan creation, investment analysis, market research and data study, and seeks to provide students with practical experience alongside theoretical knowledge by demonstrating how mathematics can be used in real life rather than being limited to mere calculations or equations.
Spanning 30 working days and divided into six phases, the programme initially introduces students to startup thinking, basic market understanding and competitive analysis based on entrepreneurial concepts. During this phase, students refine their business ideas by interacting with established entrepreneurs.
Subsequently, the programme moves to evaluate capacity and feasibility, team building and preparing the complete business model, with students learning to present their self-created business concepts as a professional business plan.
Through Startup Fest 2025, to be held in December, students will have the opportunity to pitch and sell their self-developed products and services, gaining real market experience. At the event, learning will be reviewed, achievements evaluated and future plans prepared. Throughout the programme, students gain deep proficiency in the practical aspects of mathematics by practising financial planning, investment evaluation, problem-solving and market analysis.
Practices such as prototype development, pre-revenue planning and interaction with industry experts strengthen students' confidence, leadership skills and entrepreneurial mindset. This type of learning goes beyond exam-oriented education and contributes to the development of life skills and practical perspectives.
Educational institutions such as Sanskriti International School, Euro School Hattigauda and Alok Vidyashram have already implemented the programme. This demonstrates that innovative, practical and relevant education is possible in Nepal, where going abroad is becoming an expensive option, while such programmes can inspire students to seek opportunities locally and actively contribute to the country's economic transformation.
Institutions wishing to implement the Entrepreneurial Math programme in their schools can contact Embark Unmath, Embark College in Pulchowk, Lalitpur.
