KATHMANDU: Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) President Chandra Prasad Dhakal has said there is scope for cooperation between Nepal and Rwanda in trade, tourism and investment.
Speaking at a programme organised in Kathmandu on Friday to mark Rwanda’s Independence Day, the FNCCI President highlighted potential collaboration between Nepal’s tea, herbs and handicrafts sectors and Rwanda’s technology, agro-processing and tourism industries. He added that the two countries could work together on customs reform, use of digital tools, promotion of ease of doing business, joint trade forums and investment promotion.
He noted the reforms Rwanda has implemented to facilitate business, citing the initiatives of the Rwanda Development Board, the one-day company registration process and the investment-friendly environment that have attracted foreign investment in technology, finance, manufacturing and tourism. He said the progress Rwanda has made in coffee, tea, tourism and infrastructure development offers valuable lessons for Nepali enterprises.
“Rwanda’s journey shows us that even a small country can achieve great things,” Preident Dhakal said. “Strong institutions and cooperation between government and private sector are its foundation. This is what we can learn from Rwanda.”
He described Rwanda’s transformation as a source of inspiration for Nepali people and expressed admiration for the country’s efforts to achieve peace, unity and progress since the 1994 genocide.
“Rwanda has put that painful chapter behind it and achieved remarkable progress over the last three decades. Its economy has been growing at an annual rate of 7%–8% in recent years. Strong leadership, the hard work of its people and business-friendly policies have provided the foundations for development. This is inspiring for everyone.”
