
BHADRAPUR, JHAPA: Exports of black cardamom via the Mechi Customs Office rose by 99.5% in Shrawan (mid-July to mid-August) of current fiscal year 2025/26. According to the office’s data, black cardamom exports were valued at Rs 321.76 million during the month.
Information Officer Ishwar Kumar Humagain said that 216.15 metric tonnes of black cardamom were exported in the period, compared with exports worth Rs 161.25 million in Shrawan in previous fiscal year 2024/25.
Tea exports declined by 26.8% over the same period, with exports valued at Rs 374.82 million, down from Rs 512.27 million in previous fiscal year, Humagain added.
Other major exports recorded by Mechi Customs Office included veneer sheet, up 30.40%; chhurpi, up 92%; other metal remnants, up 100%; and cauliflower, broccoli and cabbage, up 89%.
Meanwhile, exports of plywood fell by 54.1%, ginger by 57.4% and broom grass by 0.6%.
Total exports through the Mechi Customs Office from mid-July to mid-August in fiscal year 2025/26 amounted to Rs 3,694.02 billion.
