CHITWAN: Entrepreneurs in Chitwan have welcomed the government’s policies and programmes for fiscal year 2026/2027. They said the measures appear favourable to industry but warned that promised gains will depend on effective follow-through and budget allocations.

Leaders of local business groups said the document could boost private investment, but many remain in a wait-and-see mode until concrete implementation steps and funding are announced.

Chiranjivi Subedi, president of Chitwan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said the government’s proposals are supportive of industry. He noted that while every administration sets out policies to benefit multiple sectors, private businesses have often been hampered by gaps between policy and practice and stressed the need for effective execution.

Madan Ghimire, president of Chitwan Association of Industries, said the policies are positive but that their impact will depend on how the budget allocates funding to the programmes. He added that the private sector would be more enthusiastic if the government prepared a clear plan for putting the policies into action.

Gopal Bhattarai, president of Chitwan Chamber of Commerce, stated that despite the priority given to private enterprise in the policy document, expected gains may not materialise if implementation challenges arise.

Tourism entrepreneurs welcomed some measures but said they fall short of expectations. Gunaraj Thapaliya, vice president of Regional Hotel Association, Sauraha, said the policies appear to offer some relief but not as much as the sector had hoped. "The announcement of Visit Year 2085 has raised some hopes among tourism entrepreneurs, and some improvement has been seen in the policies and programmes for the coming year," he said.

Representing poultry farmers, Binod Pokharel, chairperson of Nepal Layers Poultry Farmers Association, said the policies encourage private investment and urged that issues missed in the programmes be incorporated in the budget to create an investment-friendly environment.

Business leaders in Chitwan urged the government to convert policy commitments into actionable plans and to provide timely budget support so that optimism can be realised as tangible growth.

President Ramchandra Paudel unveiled the government's policies and programmes for upcoming fiscal year 2026/27 on Monday.
