KATHMANDU: Nepalese Army Institute of Health Sciences (NAIHS), Bhandarkhal, has launched super-speciality Doctorate of Medicine programmes in cardiology, critical care and MCH urology.

Classes for the new programmes have already begun, the Institute’s Executive Director, Major General Prof Dr Devendra Bahadur Khatri, said. NAIHS currently offers five bachelor’s degree programmes — MBBS, BPH, BSc MLT, BNS and BSc Nursing — and runs master’s-level (MD/MS) classes in 18 subjects, with five subjects available under the MN programme.

A total of 1,215 students are enrolled at bachelor’s level, while 265 students are pursuing various master’s degrees at the institute, Dr Khatri added.

The institute reported full success in recent licensing examinations. Ninety-six MBBS graduates who sat the Nepal Medical Council licensing examination in 2082 BS all passed, and similar success was recorded in licensing tests conducted by the Nepal Health Professional Council for the BPH and MLT programmes and by the Nepal Nursing Council.

Established on Bhadra 30, 2067 BS (September 15, 2010) at the initiative of the then Chief of Army Staff, Chhatraman Singh Gurung, NAIHS plans to introduce two additional bachelor’s programmes — Bachelor in Physiotherapy and Bachelor in Pharmacy — from the upcoming academic session.

NAIHS’s academic staff currently includes 38 professors, 68 associate professors and 142 lecturers.
