RSP President Lamichhane meets India's PM Modi in New Delhi

KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Wednesday.

Lamichhane is in India on a five‑day visit at the invitation of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Nitin Nabin; he left Nepal on Monday. The meeting brought senior officials from both countries together to discuss bilateral ties and political cooperation.

Officials said the talks covered Nepal-India relations, ties between the RSP and the BJP, mutual interests and other dimensions of cooperation.

Present from the Indian side were External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri. Lamichhane attended the meeting with his spouse Nikita Paudel, RSP leaders Bipin Acharya and Deepak Bohara, and senior officials from the Nepali embassy in New Delhi.

After the meeting, Prime Minister Modi posted on social media: "Delighted to meet the Chairman of the Rastriya Swatantra Party of Nepal, Mr Rabi Lamichhane. I welcome and fully share his desire to work closely together for a shared and prosperous future. Nepal is a priority partner under our Neighbourhood First policy, and we look forward to collaborating with the new government to elevate the special and multifaceted relationship between the two countries to greater heights."

Earlier in the visit, on Tuesday, Lamichhane met India's Home Minister Amit Shah, External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar, BJP President Nitin Nabin and other senior officials.
